Installing
To install simply download the self-extracting executable, ThumbBot.exe, to a local
folder. When the download is complete launch ThumbBot.exe and follow the setup
program's instructions. Upon completion your Start Programs menu will contain a
shortcut to the ThumbBot User's Guide which explains how to use the software.
ThumbBot is an add-on for the Internet Explorer browser from Microsoft® so there
is no stand alone program which needs to be run. To start scanning a web site for
pictures simply click the ThumbBot... menu item in IE's Tools menu or click the ThumbBot
button on IE's toolbar. If the button is not immediately visible it can be added by
right clicking the toolbar and selecting Customize... on the pop up menu.
Uninstalling
For best results please close all running instances of Internet Explorer and then
uninstall from Windows Control Panel's Add or Remove Programs applet. If IE continues
to display the ThumbBot menu item or toolbar button either logging off and back on or
rebooting should remove them. If there are any problems with the normal uninstall it can
be done manually by following these simple steps:
-
Close all running instances of Internet Explorer.
-
Run the Windows program regedit.exe and delete ONLY the key
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions\{EE874DF5-BA13-4961-A0CF-B047F6E4D78C}".
-
Optionally run the Windows command regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\SwellCode\ThumbBot\Thumb.dll".
If you've installed to a folder other than the default the path to Thumb.dll will need to
be adjusted.
-
Optionally run the Windows command regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\SwellCode\ThumbBot\Attach.ocx".
If you've installed to a folder other than the default the path to Attach.ocx will need to
be adjusted.
-
Delete the shortcut to the user's guide from the Windows Start Programs menu.
-
Delete the entire install folder and all of its contents
Upgrading
For best results when upgrading from one version to another please follow these
simple steps:
-
Close all running instances of Internet Explorer.
-
Perform a complete uninstall of the old version as described above in the
Uninstalling section.
-
Perform a complete install of the new version as described above in the
Installing section.
Pages Not Scanned
Try increasing the Scan depth or Time out options. If the Stay in domain option is checked
try unchecking it. Even if you're only scanning a single page it may contain frames from other
domains so the option would need to be unchecked to processs everything. ThumbBot only scans
linked pages whose URLs specify the "http:" protocol. It also skips scanning pages whose URLs
contain strings like "login" or "logout".
Pictures Not Returned
Try removing any strings from the URL contains option. Try relaxing the picture width,
height or size limitation options. If the Stay in domain option is checked try unchecking it.
Web pages often contain pictures from other domains so the option would need to be unchecked to
return those.
